• EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” AUGUST 10, 1910. i Owing to financial difficulties it was thought the South African Board of Control would not be sending a cricket team to Australia during the 1910-11 season. In reference to the proposal to form a River Board in Palmerston North, a deputation from the Palmerston North Borough Council had waited upon the Kairanga County Council seeking the assistance of that body. After a lengthy discussion the Kairanga County Council refused to co-operate. A serious . epidemic of cholera had brpken out in India, Holland and Russia. There wore nearly 200 deaths in India in two days and in .Russia some of the villages had lost as many as 50 per cent, of the inhabitants. -; v: • ■The Grand National Hurdle Race of £IOOO, two miles, had been won by Mr G. B. Oman’s Paisano 12.-1)- ridden by W. Young. Paritutu (10.3) was second and Woolloomdoloo (9.11) third.
