ASHHURST CLUB’S YEAR.
Tho stewards of the Ashlmrst-Pohangina Racing Club, in their annual _ report, state: —Our race meeting on Anniversary Day was held in fine weather and received good support. There was, ITowover, a considerable falling-off in revenue conipared with tho previous meeting. lhe totalisator turnover £15.093, was £4loo less, and returns from other sources also decreased As a result the meeting showed a loss of* £254 Is lid, after allowing £240 for depreciation of buildings. lhe farming operations for the year resulted in a satisfactory net profit of £62 0s 9d. This amount lias been set off against .the loss on the meeting, making the net loss for the year £192 Is 2d. Tho club lias lent £250 to the Government, free of interest, for tho duration of the war and twelve months thereafter, and has also contributed £3O 10s to patriotic appeals. Tho bank credit at the commencement of the year was £722 18s 6d, and after, making capital expenditure of 0s 7d, which includes the Government loan of £250, the credit balance at the end of the year was £550 2s 9d. Wo regret to record the death during tho j’car of six of our members, Messrs G. Cooks]cy, W. Hunt, J. C. Murray. M. A. Moody, 1. O’Neill and L. Saveli. The club’s sympathy is extended to the bereaved relatives. In accordance with tho rules, the president (Mr R. MacDonald), two vicepresidents (Messrs W. Howell and J. H. MacDonald), treasurer (Mr J. Ircmcwan) and four stewards (Messrs J. G. Bailey, R. Clieync, C. V. Ciochetto and E. Hcnaghan) retired. AH of tlieso gentlemen have been- returned unopposed.
