WAR FUNDS
NATIONAL COUNCIL. HEALTHY POSITION. Per Press Association. AA r E ISLINGTON, Aug. 9. The 25th annual meeting of the National AVar Funds Council was held yesterday. The meeting was opened by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. AV. E. Parry), and in the absence oi Sir Charles Luke through indisposition Mr L. 0. H. Tripp was made chairman. The statement of accounts disclosed that the expenditure over income was lower than last year, being £2132. The funds now stand at £57,394._ which includes trusts of £14,888 which can only bo expended in accord with specified conditions. The executive was authorised to expend up to £3OOO ror the relief ot unemployment. . Matters affecting patriotic efforts generally were discussed, the opinion being expressed that bodies set up under'the 1039 regulations could wit.i advantage utilise the organisation and staff of the associations functioning under the AVar Funds Act of 1914, it being felt that the experience of these committees, secretaries. _ and stalls gained over a long period would be 'of great assistance in dealing with the requests of the men of the present war. . Comment was made on the low administrative expenses, especially considering the varied activities of the council, and a vote of thanks was accorded the secretarv (Mr O. H. Dinner) for his services during the year.
