Mr F. L. Orchard, who has been very seriously ill in hospital in AA’ellington, is now showing an improvement.

Mr AA r . E. Bendall, of Palmerston North, is spending a holiday in the Whangarei district. Dr D. B. Macleod, of Christchurch, a member of the Canterbury branch of the Royal Society, lias been awarded the Hector Memorial Medal and prize for his work in physics. A message from Hyde Park (United States) states that Mr J. A. Farley (Postmaster-General) has resigned from tlie Cabinet. His resignation becomes effective on August 31. The Gazette announces that GroupCaptain F. E. T. Hewlett (Retired List) k now re-employed in the temporary rank of wing-commander on the general duties branch of the New Zealand Air Force.—Press Association. A motion of condolence with Hon. AA r . Perry, M.L.C., stated to bo ill in hospital, was passed at the annual meeting last night of the South African AVar Veterans’ Association in AYellington. Mr Perry is honorary solicitor of the association. The Gazette notifies the appointment of Mr A. Coleman, of AAmngamii, as chairman of the Government Railways Appeal Board for two years from July 15. McNicol, New Zealand University and AA r ellington Rugby representative, lias been appointed sole teaelicr at Moawhango School, eleven miles from Taihape. Advice was received from the New Zealand School of Agriculture, at a meeting of the Boaid of Governors of Massey College, yesterday, that Professor Sir Thomas Hunter, one of the board’s representatives on the Council of the School of Agriculture had .resigned owing to pressure of other duties. The board expressed regret at the resignation and decided to record its appreciation of Sir Thomas Hunter’s services while a college representative. Mr M. H. Oram was appointed to fill the vacancy.
