Signor Virginio Gayda, writing in the Giornale d’ltalia, says: “Now it is announced that Australia has annexed New Guinea and Papua. This is a new violation of international law.
In actual fact New Guinea is divided into three territories —British New Guinea or the Territory of Papua, in the southeast: the Mandated Territory of New Guinea, administered by the Commonwealth Government; and Dutch Now Guinea, in the west. About the time of the outbreak of the present vvar Australia decided for the more efficient defence ot that portion of the Pacific to incorporate the former two sections in the fiedcral scheme of strategy.
