MANAWATU CLUB. PATRIOTIC FUND COMPETITION. There was a very largo entry for the foursome competition held in aid of the patriotic fund on the Hokowhitu links on Saturday. Some excellent cards were handed in, especially that of the winners, V. Goldfinch and Mrs Wills, who were round in 90 off a 19 handicap. Other good scores included a net 72 by D. W. Conditions were excellent for the Stabletord bogey competition played by the members of the Manawatu club yesterday. However, the scores were not exceptional. The leading cards were:—K. S. Glendinning and F. G. Jolly, E. E. Mabin and H. G. Bagnail, W. Smith . and J. Hodges, 37 points; F. Guinness and L. Evans, E. R. Chapman and N. Grant, 35; J. H. Nash and L. Cooper, 34. There were a number of former members who are now in the Army playing during the . week-end, including A. E. Guy, the former Poverty Bay professional, D. McKenzie, A. Fletcher, It. N. Cox and R. Spencer. Fletcher, who has not played since ho went into camp, • did well, getting great length from the tees and also good 6hots to the green. He secured an eagle 3 at Cliff View and also several birdies. E. Christmas, a 24-liandicap player, had two excellent rounds during the week-end, and as a result has had his handicap reduced by four strokes. He handed in a card of 66 net in the morning and a net 65 in the afternoon.
