FATAL INJURIES.

ROADSIDE ACCIDENT. Per Press Association. WHANGAREI, Aug. 3. Alfred Lyddiard, aged 21, single of Titoki, was killed at Maungatapere this afternoon, when lie and a companion were mending a tyre of the car in which he had been given a lift when returning homo from Whnngarei. Ho was struck by a passing car driven by Albert Julius Peterson, a farmer, of Whatitiri, and so badly injured, inchiding a fractured skull, that lie died instantly. His companion, who was the owner of the car, was also injured and taken to hospital suffering from concussion. Deceased had enlisted and was about to enter camp. He was a prominent cyclist and liockey player. DEATH OF POLICE COOK. •WELLINGTON, Aug. 5. The death occurred at 7 a.in. on Saturday of Robert Arthur McKenzie Meharry, aged 47, cook at the Mt. Cook Police Station, who was taken to hospital 6) hours earlier for the treatment of injuries he received when he was knocked down by a motor-car at the comer of Cambridge Terrace and Buckle Street.
