“ METEOR THEATRE, “MAN’S CASTLE.” Without doubr the most poignant ancl moving love story ever brought to Bio screen, Columbia’s “Man’s Castle,” to-day presents Silencer Tracy and Loretta Young to Meteor Theatre audiences in one of the most poignant motion pictures of all time. Both Tracy, who won the 1938 Academy Award, and Miss Young have appeared iii scores of excellent films: “Man’s Castle”- ranks easily with the greatest. Tracy is seen as a shiftless, homeless vagrant, and Miss Young as a hungry, helpless waif whom he rescues from' the streets and takes, to his ramshackle tin shanty in- the riverside “dumps.” Footloose and irresponsible, he soon becomes restless under the restraint of living so long in one place, and lie tells the girl lie doesn't love her and plans to leave her. She, happy in the home she has. sees her world crumbling beneath her. The girl announces that she is soon to become a mother. But that means nothing to the vagrant, except that lie must now provide the money to care for both before he can leave. To get money lie attempts a robbery and fails. But the result of that failure straightens out the tangled romance of these children of poverty. Exceptionally capable players the stars, Marjorie Rambeau, Glenda Farrell, Walter Connolly, Arthur Hold and Dickie Moore arc among the actors who add brilliant performances to a brilliant film. REGENT THEATRE. “COME ON, GEORGE:” Here’s good news for entertainment lovers. George Formbv’s new comedy, “Come On, George.” is coming. Press reviewers are unanimous in their declaration that this is the funniest film , even George lias made, a real laugh tonic for these troublesome times. “Como On, George” is a horse-racing comedy, and George admits that he has long been trying to persuade A.T.P. production executives to make such a film. This is explained by the fact that the world-popu-lar comedian was once apprenticed to a racing stable and still retains bis great love for horses. Now the producer's tip is “get set” on the favourite for a hearty laugh with “Come On, George.” . George Formby and Beryl (Mrs Formby) are still tlie hardest working pair in the entertainment world. If anything, the coming of war hns made this very popular Lancashire couple more busy than ever. When war was declared, they were in their favourife locality, Blackpool (they have a house “Berylene” just outside the tow*n), appearing in a 16-wcek engagement. After a temporary shut-down, the show re. sumed and when it had finished, George and Beryl began to concentrate on giving the troops some free shows. A.T.P. have already begun work on a new Forniby film, which shows George winning the U-boat war single-handed after landing ill a neutral country and getting mixed up with a spy organisation by mistake.
