SPECIALIST UNITS.

SERVICE OVERSEAS. RECRUITS INVITED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 14. “The New Zealand Government has been in continuous consultation with the British Government in an endeavour to ascertain any further help that could be afforded from this countin',” said the 3!inister of Defence (Hon. F. Jones) do-night. “As a result of these consulations it lias now been decided immediately to establish the following additional units: “One railway survey company; one railway construction company; two railway operating companies; two forestry companies; two Army troop companies. “The types wanted to fill the railway operating companies are : Blacksmiths, boilermakers, carpenters, coppersmiths, clerks, drivers (transportation plant), - ehginedrivers, firemen, loco fitter-drivers, fitters, liiters, storemen, blacksmith’s strikers, shunters and porters, tinsmiths, wagon, erectors, stokers (stationary engine), pioneers, internal combustion driver* and cooks. “Applications for leave to enlist in the special units should be submitted to the General 3lanager of Railways through the applications controlling officers in' time to reach Wellington on or before ’Friday, June 21. Applicants require to be between 21 and 40 years of age and physically fit for service in any part of the world. Preference will be given to single men, but married men may be accepted. Consideration will also be given to the enlistment of members up to the age of 45.” The following personnel are required for the railway survey company: Clerks, draughtsmen, fitter-turners, engineering surveyors and other survey duties. •’ -; \ For the railway construction company the following are needed : Blacksmiths, bricklayers, carpenters and joiners, draughtsmen (railway construction), drivers (transportation plant),' fitterdrivers, fitters,, signal fitters, mason painters, platelayers, plumbers and gasfitters, riggers, rivetters, technical storemen, railway surveyors, welders (acetylene and electric), blacksmith strikers, stokers. The forestry company will consist of axemen, blacksmiths, carpenters, electricians, engine artificers, draughtsmen' (topographical), fitters. millwrights, sawers, saw-doctors and wheelers. The recruitment of the forestry unit is being carried out * by rthe State Forest Service, the regional conservators of which at Auckland, Rotorua, Palmerston North. Nelson, Hokitika, Christchurch and Invercargill are handling the enlistments. The Army troop companies types are practically the same as those - mentioned under the headings of railway operating .and railway construction.
