EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD,” JUNE 14, 1910. The area under wheat in Canada totalled 9,295,000 acres, an increase of 1,504,000 acres over 1909. For the New Zealand Cup, worth £2OOO, of two miles, there were 84 nominations. , A London cablegram stated that lour men had entered the Wellington .Pit at Whitehaven, where a terrible disaster had occurred. The bodies of 133 dead men were found. Through the roof collapsing the searchers were not able to proceed further than 40 yards from the outbreak of the fire. . .. In the year which ended on April 30 16,851 tons of butter were shipped from New Zealand. . . The bodies of Commander Gallot and five other men had been recovered from the wreck of the French submarine; Pluviouse, which struck a boat in the English Channel.
