BRITISH BY-ELECTION.
COMMUNIST LOSES DEPOSIT. LONDON, June 13. The Bow and Bromley by-election, which was held as a l esult of the death of the : veteran Labour leader, Mr G. Lansbury, has returned Mr C. Key (Labour) with 11,594. votes. The only other candidate, Mrs I. Brown (Communist) polled 506. This is the th:rd time, Mrs. Brown has forfeited her deposit in by-elections, -and she becomes the ninth “stop-the-war” candidate to forfeit a deposit since the outbreak of the war. It was the first tint's in history that an election count lias been made and announced in an air-raid shelter. This was arranged in . order to avoid the possibility of the count being interrupted by an air raid.
