APITI BRIDGE.
UNSAFE FOR HEAVY- TRAFFIC. The state of the Apiti bridge was discussed at a meeting of the Pohangina County Council, yesterday, when it was decided that an endeavour he made to arrange with tho Kiwitea County Council for a survey of the bridge, with a view to having its present unsound condition remedied. The curtailment of expenditure because of war necessities was the subject of a letter from the Alain Highways Board. r - The chairman (Cr. 8. J. Stratum) said that new works mainly would be affected by the proposals. Alamteuunce work’ would be restricted as little as possible, There were a number of bridges in the county requiring attention. An examination of the Apiti bridge had shown that it was unsafe for heavy traffic. A deputation from the council had waited on the Kiwitea Council, and it had been decided to have a survev made of the site and approaches. ~ . ~ 'Phe engineer said it would require about £IOOO to make, the-bridge last for three more years. There were two bridges in the Awahou riding urgently requiring attention also The engineer was instructed to, arrange for a survey of the Apiti bridge.
