PAHIATUA.
The following local recruits are to appear before the Medical Board at Dannevirke: Messrs L. F. Barraclough, R. J. Smith, V. H. O’Brien, Job Mabey, M. G. Rasmussen and E. Gregorie. Donations to the Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund in Pahiatua now total £2002 14s Id The winners of the Pahiatua Ladies’ Golf Club competitions for May were:— Medal round, Miss A. Boyd; C competition, Mrs Gardner; A and B eclectic, Miss A. Boyd; C eclectic. Miss Smyth: A and B stroke, *ftlrs W. Nelson; C stroke, Miss C. Boyd. At a meeting of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, Mrs W. F. Day presided. It was decided to postpone the annual ball owing to the war situation. Mrs R. A. Wilson and Mrs F. P. Nelson were elected delegates to attend the annual conference. 'An appeal was made to members to bring gifts suitable for soldiers to the July meeting, and a- large parcel will be sent. Arrangements were also made to purchase £2 worth of wool for knitting soldiers’ comforts. Mrs Day and Miss Gibson reported that they had attended the annual provincial council meeting, held at Masterton. It was suggested that the Division should send Christmas gifts to refugee children in England and that these presents takelthe form of warm socks, gloves, caps,- singlets, jersey or little woollen frocks, etc.
