HOCKEY ASSOCIATION.
At a meeting of the Manawatu Hockey Association, last evening, ,Mr L. Martin presided. Other members present were Messrs V. Turner, It. K. Beale, J. - Gallichaif, C. Eade. W. H. Wilson. I). Wilton, W. Smith, J. D. McDonald, It. Rose and It! jA. Brace (hon. secretary). ■ ' , . The New - Zealand Hockey Association advised that the Ohakea Air Force eleven has been granted permission to play in tlie Manawatu competitions for the 1940 season. The Air Force players are now eligible for selection in the representative team. The United Sports Club)was declared the winner of the first rounds of both the senior A and Bl competitions.. It was decided to make an application to the City Council for two playing grounds for schoolboys’ hockey. The Taranaki team is to be invited t'o play a '-Winter Shield match at Palmerston North'this season. August 24 was named as the day for a proposed return match with Wellington, at Wellington. All competition - hockey fixtures in both the men’s arid - women’s divisions 1 are to be postponed nextSaturday oh account of the Winter Show. G. Botting was granted a transfer from Broadway to Phoenix. Mr J. Iv. Paton is to be asked to become selector for the women’s representative teams. .
