AMERICA’S INTEREST. YVASHINGTON, April 22. Alajor George Fielding Eliot, a military writer, who also served with the A.I.F. in the world war, said today: “Australia and America are much in the same boat so far as the Pacific is concerned. Australia could supply military and naval bases and the United States could contribute funds lor their construction and maintenance. The United States is very interested in Ear Eastern supplies of rubber and tin.” Major Eliot paid a tribute to the effectiveness of the British Navy and said lie believed that the Allies held the advantage in Norway because they were able to transport troops and supplies, and challenge the Germans. Hitler’s attempts to maintain sea communications with Scandinavia would lie disastrous. The British were effectively interrupting communications across the Skagcrrak, where it would he useless lor Britain to risk her capital ships.
