BUSINESSMEN CONFER.

IMPORTING AND ALLIED INTERESTS. DEPUTATION TO MINISTER. Ter Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 23. A conference of importing and allied interests was held in AA’ellington to-day to discuss and formulate questions affecting the Import Control Regulations. I t was decided to make representations to the Minister of Customs (Hon. W. Nash). A deputation consisting of delegates from the various importing associations and trade federations represented at the conference will wait on the Minister to-mor-row. Mr Gaynor Jackson (Auckland), president of the Bureau of Importers, presided at the conlerence and with Mr G. W. Guthrie, president of the New Zealand Importers’ Federation, and Mr E. A. Christie, president of the United Kingdom Manufacturers and New Zealand Representatives’ Association, will act as spokesman at the meeting with the Minister. The conference discussed at length various aspects of the Import Control Regulations, particularly the new situation created since the outbreak of war. The effect-of the Minister’s decision in connection with the discontinuance of no-remittanee-of-funds licenses and the effect on trade and employment, Customs and sales tax revenue were considered, as well as the Finance Emergency Regulations, 1940, and the embargo on dealings in the outside exchange market.
