SEASON’S TWO-YEAR-OLDS.

PRINCIPAL STAKE WINNERS. (By “Spectator.”) As very few two-year-old races of any importance take place after the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes, held recently, there is not likely to be much alteration in the position of leading winneis and Sires ot two-year-olds for the season. It must bo very many years since there was a season in -which there were so many two-year-old winners and since the important stakes were distributed over such a wide area. Beau Pore is not represented by any very outstanding juvenile, but is once more at the bead of the winning sires’ list, though bis total is less than half of last year's, and the same applies to Bulandshar, who is once again second. Beaulivre was last year the leading Uvo-ycar-old with £2315, nearly double the amount won this year by Nightbeam, while two others, Beau ’Vito (£1310) and Submission (£1295), last season earned more in stakes than any juvenile did this season. Two-year-old winners of £6OO or more in win and place money arc us follow :

Lanibonrn £B4O. Pbaleron £BOS, Black Hobo £785, Air Flight £770, Kentucky £720, Chary £720, Gold Flight £685, Gayinisw £660, Queen City £6lO. The largest sum ever won by a two-vear-old in New Zealand was in 1922-23, when Queen March, the dam of Queen City, won £4700 in stakes. The leader for the 1937-38 season was Defaulter with £2510. Beau Pore. 'The live leaders Itu-t season were: Beau l’cre £6025. Bulandshar £4845, Limond £2795, Yaals £2465 and Fox bridge £930. The leading sires of juveniles for the current season and the amounts won by their progeny are as follow:

Aliens, Belle Femme, Royal Descent, Beau boon, Beau Coureur, Worton and Kinsman. Bulaudsliars amount was won by Shikari, l.ambourn, Brahman, Indore, Kliurja and Black Out. Pbaleron Bay’s representatives wore Phalerott, Cherry Bay, Cctewayo, (’lieddiiigton, Pbaleron Song and Yal Bay. Iliad was represented by Dotia. Queen City and Locrinii. Foxbridgc sired Lott Ro-ti, A’olifox, Ascot Bloom. Wild Fox and Lucky Lulu. Niglilbeam won the whole of the sum to the crooit of Night Raid. Jumper Named. The Peach Brandy gelding trained at Awapuni by W. F. Pino lias been named Luaitli. lie has been displaying promising jumping form for a novice. Encouraging Display. Nisi l’rius, who paid double figures lot a place at Oamaru last Saturday, is a two-year-old gelding by Solicitor-General from Mallet-ay, dam of Queen Dorothy, and although lie was a good way from the second horse in the Novice Stakes, bis display was encouraging. Youngsters at Awapuni.

Three Laughing Prince youngsters front fv G. Morris’s stable were given a threefurlong sprint at Awapuni the other (lay and were going along well at the finish after breaking 40sce for the distance. One is the daughter of Ida Mcrling and the others are geldings from Barley Sugar and Moa Bird, the last-named being a full brother to Morning: 1* light. J hov moved attractively.

The Ring a Good Stayer. The Ring, winner of the Hawke’s Rav Cup, won three races last season. including the Danncvirkc Greenhills Hack Cup over a distance of nine furlongs. This season, before the Hawke's Ray meeting, she had won the Napier Mcanee Handicap, one mile, and the Kclburn Handicap at Trentham, one mile and three furlongs, both under Hack conditions. She had therefore shown considerable staying ability, but had not previously opposed anything of ihe class of the field in the Hawke’s Bay Cup, in which site scored easily her most important success to date. She is a four-vear-old mare by Siegfried from Gay Salute by Lord Qucx from Soot by All Black from Salute.

Roy Bun’s Record. Rov Bun lias done particularly well during the autumn West Coast circuit, and has won six races, including the Nelson Cup and a double at the Marlborough meeting last week-end. His record for the season to date is thus eighteen starts for

seven wins, a second and two thirds, lie was bred by his owner, Mr T. E. Coates, of Crcymouth, a member of the exerii five council of lhe New Zealand Racing Conference. He was responsible for some solid performances last season, not the least of which was his win from Nightcalm and Lady Leigh at Ute Ashburton meeting held at Riccarton. Roy Bun is by Rovdon from Baby Bun by Some Boy ii. A half-sister with useful form is Philibun by Rhilamor. Philibiin is also owned by Mr Coates. Roy Bun is trained by M. Conza, of Riccarton. and his stablemale Skyrcna has also had a very successful time on the circuit. It was reported after the Nelson meeting that Conza had purchased Richelieu Pearl, who was for morlv trained at Woodvillo by A, M Wright.

Wanganui Trotting Club Benefits. “The meeting was a phenomenal success,” said Hr G. J. Adams, president of the Wanganui Trotting Club, when referring to the fixture held under the control of tho Waikato ’Trotting Club. As a result of tho meeting, the net profits of which were generously handed over to the Wanganui Trotting Club, the latter body will he able to wipe off tho deficit which has held it back for several years, and will 1,0 aldo to look forward to the new season without having to worry about liabilities.
