USE OF GAS INCREASES.

REPORT ON CITY WORKS. Increases in the nse of gas in the city were indicated in a report presented to the City Council, on Monday, by .Mr J. Learmonth, gas manager, covering operations for the 12 months ended March 31. The gas made increased over that of the previous year by 6,242,000 cubic feet and the output by 6,463,000 cubic feet. The average make per ton increased by 930 cubic feet and the New Zealand coal used increased by 273 tons. The Newcastle coal used decreased by 199 tons. The coke sold decreased'by 319 tons and there was an immense of 100 tons in the amount of coke in stock. The tar distilled increased by 9903. gallons. 'l'lie following appliances were installed: 202 .gas cookers, 165 gas fires, 11 gas coppers and 9 hotplates, while 315 services were cut and cleared, 563 meters changed and 106 new consumers connected.
