MANAWATU CLUB. PATRIOTIC FUND DAY. Following out the request to clubs by the New Zealand Golf Club that they set aside one day during April for the purpose of raising funds for the Fighting Services "Welfare Appeal, the Manawatu Golf Club arranged its tournament for the week-end and the competitions were a four-ball bogey and a four-ball Stableford. The weather was fine and the Hokowhitu course in first-class order, and .there was a very big entry of Manawatu players and others from neighbouring clubs, particularly from Palmerston North. The four-ball bogey was plaved in the morning and the best cards were 5 up, and in the Stableford the winning pairs each gained 42 points. I’he leading cards were : Four-ball Bogey Handicap.—N. Hume and L. Corkill, 5 up; N. Forbes and G. Stubbs, 5 up; R. W. Ramsay and D. Tottman, 4 up; F. Ward and E. Astin, 4 up; F. Jolly and E. It. Chapman, 4 up; W. W. Smith and N. H. Amon, 3 up; H. Smith and Iv. Dawkins, 3 up. . Four-ball Stableford. —W. W. Smith and N. H. Amon, 42pts; Iv. S. Glendinning and A. E. Hansel, 42; H. Astin and F. W. Ward, 40; M. 1. Church and H. Hill, 39; L. F. Speechlev and L. Cooper, 39; E. E. Mubin and J. W. Taylor, 39; D. Wiseman and N. Hume, 38; E. Ward and C. Cusdin, 38; R. Macc and L. T. Aitclnson 38. . The tournament was directed by Mr K. G. Chamberlain and the official starters were Messrs J. It. Galloway and P. Barraud, who also gathered additional subscriptions for the Fighting Fund, being responsible for £8 of the amount of over £3O by which the fund will benefit as a result of the tournament. -.Mr B. E. Tvciller, president of the Manawatu Golf Club at the conclusion of plav, stated that the tournament had been a very successful one and lie thanked his fellow members for giving such fine support and players from Palmerston North, who had come from Awatapu in sueli strong force. He hoped that Palmerston North’s tournament which is being held next weekend, would be all that was hoped and that Manawatu members would give it every support.
