(From Our Own Correspondent.) v lIA LOOM BE, April 19. At a recent committee meeting of the Golf Club it was decided to bold d medal round competition during the week-end in aid of tlie National Patriotic Fund. Trophies will be awarded to the winner and the runner-up. Mr L. Miller was appointed bandicapper. Sub-committees formed were: Greens committee, Messrs B. J. Managh, D. C. Managh and R. Dais; match committee. Messrs L. Miller, .7, O’Sullivan and R. J .Managh; social committee, ladies’ and men's committees. A net scorn competition to run throughout the season has been arranged. In future no placing of the ball will ho allowed in men’s competitions. The best net cards returned in last week’s medal round were: R. Todd 68, L. Miller 69, J. O’Sullivan 70, R. Managh 71. There was a large gathering at the Jubilee Ilall on Wednesday evening for the ninth birthday of the Tvomen's Institute. Dancing occupied the major portion of the programme, with a cuchro tournament for non-dancers. Mrs R. Williams (president) called on Mrs A Prior (president of the Tokorangi branch) to light the candles on the cake and Mrs AMarshall (Stanway) to extinguish them. Mrs W .Davis (Taumarunui), a past president of the Hulcombe branch, was called upon to cut the first piece of cake. Representatives of the visiting institutes expressed birthday felicitations to Holcombe, those being from Stanwav. 'Tokorangi. Colyton and the W.D.F.U. The cake, which was made by Miss lidna Fergusson and iced by Miss Elsie Fergusson, was cut and handed round and many appreciative remarks were made about it. The cuchro prizes were won by Mrs E. Cowdrey; consolation, Mrs A. Marshall, Mr W. McLennan 1, Mr D. McNae, consolation. Mrs R. Williams undertook the duties of M.C. Among those present wore: Mesdamrs R. Williams, in green suede; N.
