ENTITLED TO A PROFIT.
VIEWS OF FARMERS. Per Press Association. ASHBURTON, April 20. Objection to a statement by the Director of Agriculture (Mr A. H. Cockayne) in a recent broadcast, to the effect that a substantial proportion of the primary producers should undertake to produce a greater quantity of foodstuffs even if they incurred a loss in doing it, was voiced by the Mid-Can-terbury executive of the Farmers’ Union. It was agreed that a protest bo sent to the Dominion executive for action. . - One speaker said that in nearly all other businesses there was a price fixing tribunal to ensure reasonable profits were made. Why could not the farmer be similarly treated The farmers in the present war period wished to make only a reasonable profit and avoid a slump afterwards.
