NATIONAL PARTY
PAHIATUA ELECTORATE. SIR A. RANSOM RETIRING. The annual meeting of the Pahiatua electorate committee of the National Party was held in Dannevirke this week. Mr H. P. Horne (chairman) presided over a large attendance of delegates representing the whole of the electorate from Pahiatua to Takapau. The following officers were elected : Chairman, Mr H P. Horne; vicechairmen, Messrs W. Howarth and It. Mitchell; secretary, Mr R. R. Johnston; executive, chairmen of the Pahiatua, Dannevirke and Woodville branches. • Sir Alfred and Lady Ransom were present and the chairman referred to Sir Alfred’s intention to retire from Parliament at the end of the present term. Eulogistic reference was made to the wonderful service rendered by Sir Alfred, not only to the whole of the electorate, but also to the Dominion, during his 17 years as a member, and the best of good wishes were extended to Sir Alfred and his wife. . Sir Alfred returned thanks, and in doing so dealt vigorously with the present politico! situation and the necessity of the National Party oiganisation keeping alive and remaining intact, and giving all the assistance possible to the Dominion’s war effort.
