WOMEN'S INSTITUTES. At a mooting of the Pahiatua \A omen s Institute. Mrs E. B. Watson presided. Mcsdames McDonald and Gardiner were appointed delegates at the Woodviue council meeting, and Mrs E. B. Watson i,o repicsent the institute at the Dominion Federation council meeting in July. Arrangements were made for the sending- of five, more parcels to the Patriotic Society. Mrs Paterson gave a short talk on the part women are playing in England during the present war. A talk was also given by Mrs A. Bissct, her subject being ■‘Thomas Crcig.” Competitions wore won as follows: Tomato sauce. Mrs P. Bissct 1, Mrs Etz 2: shortbread, Mrs Macrae 1, Mrs P. Bissct 2. NOTES. The donations to the Mayor's and county chairman’s recruits’ presentation funds combined arc now nearing the £2OO mark. _ No fewer than four cases cf hospital comforts, balaclavas, mittens, juniper.-, etc., have been despatched to the Patriotic Society's headquarters from the Pahiatua branch of the Red Cress Society. 1 hose responsible -for this are a busy band of workers under the direction of the Mayoress (Airs S. K. Siddclls). Pupils of the Manga maire. School, at the request of their headmistress, have been supplied with wool to make balaclavas. A liberal supply of wool and cotton has been donated by Airs E. L„ Harvey, ol Maiigatainoka.
