COMPETITION BY RAILWAYS.
“This is :ui instance where the Railways Department, in my opinion, is entering into competition with the local carriers,” said the iS'o. 2 Transport Licensing Authority, Mr J. P. O. Skoglund, at a public sitting of the authority in 'Wellington yesterday, when the department applied tor licenses to carry goods to or from the station. Mr Skoglund reserved his decision, which he said would not be given till lie had heard the applications of the department in other towns in the licensing district.
