CONDUCT OF RAFFLES. WIDER SCOPE PROPOSED. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 19. An announcement has been made by the Minister of internal Affairs (HonW. E. Parry) that an Order-in-Counoil has been prepared for approval by Cabinet, extending the provisions ot ( tiie Gaming Act to permit the conduct of raffles tor real or personal property. The extension is being made for the duration of the war and covers raffles designed to assist patriotic purposes. At present the Gaming Act limits the conduct of- raffle., to art prizes, and the extension now proposed will have the effect of considerably increas-j ing the scope under which tliese competitions are held. I The Minister's announcement was; made in reply to a deputation from the Canterbury Patriotic Council, pointing out that a furnished house had been offered as a raffle prize for the patriotic funds in Christchurch.
