Last evening His Excellency the Gov-ernor-General (AGscount Galway) left AA’ellington for the South Island, where lie will attend the Centennial celebrations at Akaroa and the Anzac Daj ceremonies at Dunedin.

Mr Victor Beck, a wellknown figure in New Zealand for lull I a century, lie having been either advance agent or manager of various theatrical companies, concert parties, and lecturers. Born in -New York ' years ago, Air Beck came to New Zealand first as advance manager foi George B.ignold’s “Lights o’ London” company in 1882. A form of entertainment which Air Beck pioneered was the Edison phonograph and in 1891 he toured New Zealand with the instrument. which was not then available as household equipment.
