RANGITIKEI.

MARTON, April 18. Mr F. E. Loader ot H.M.S. Achilles, is spending his annual leave with Mr and Mrs W. B. Winchcombe, of Skcrman Street. On Tuesday the death occurred at Christchurch of Mrs Mary Ilaar, widow of Mr Conrad Ilaar, in her 80th year. The late Mrs Ilaar was born in Sheerness, Kent, in 1860, being the youngest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Coughlin, and spent most of her young days in Ireland. She came -to New Zealand in 1880. Settling in South Canterbury she was married in 1887 to Mr llaai;, who was born in London and came to. New Zealand in 1859 and resided at Winchester, where he followed the, occupation of a blacksmith. A family of four hoys and two girls were born at Winchester, the eldest being killed at Passchendaele in the Groat War. Mr George Ilaar is at Rata, Mr Fred.. Haa’r at To Puke, and Mr Jack Ilaar at l’e-muk-i. The daughters are Mrs Dan O’Connor (Tcmuka) and Mrs B. Junes (Fairlio). Her only surviving relative, Mrs J. Murphy, is a resident of Palmerston North. The late Mrs Ilaar had the distinction of being awarded the Order of St. John for her active work in connection with the Great War, when sho knitted 760 pounds of wool in making socks, balaclavas and mittens for the soldiers at the front.
