VERDICT AT INQUEST.

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Feb. 21. At the inquest to-day into the death of Thomas Egan, aged 50, a verdict was returned that death was due to meningitis following an injury to the eye. The injury was received when a dispute took 'place between deceased and Daniel John Mclntyre. Detective Hogan, who conducted the inquest, said Mclntyre was charged with manslaughter, but the Grand Jury returned a no bill. The evidence was .that the trouble arose from a practical' joke interrupted by Mclntyre.
