U-BOAT LOSSES
AVERAGE TWO A WEEK. ARMING ALL SHIPS. FIRST LORD’S STATEMENT. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (British Official Wireless.) Received February 22, 11.30 a.m. RUGBY, Feb. 21. Asked in the House of Commons whether lie could give the latest information of the results of action against U-boats, the First Lord of the Admiralty (Mr Winston Churchill) said our success was greater than had been expected ' and that, though the results, of course, varied week to week, the average rate weekly of sinking's—not less than two per week—which he gave in December was in no way exaggerated.
Replying to further questions, Mr Churchill reaffirmed the Government’s intention to arm all ships, including fishing vessels, as rapidly as i possible, and said that strong air patrols would be provided for the protection of fishing vessels. -
