Miss Joan Batchelor, of Oroua Downs, is the guest of Mrs James Cowan, of Wellington, Mrs A. Goodjohn is a Palmerston North visitor to Napier for the Centennial celebrations. Miss Margaret Campbell, of Levin, has been visiting her mother, Mrs lan Campbell, of Palmerston North. _ Miss Lorna Sheppard, of Palmerston North, is attending the annual conference of the New Zealand Libraries’ Association in Wellington. Mrs C. C. Hills, of Awapnni, lias returned from a holiday at Paekakariki where she was the guest of Mrs 0. Rowling, of Fitchett Street. Mrs A. Marsden Woods, of Whangarei, who has been the guest of Mrs F. V. West, of Palmerston North, returns to the north by the express to-day. The final of the open championship of the Wellington Croquet Association was finished on Monday, and resulted in a win for Mrs 1). C. Hen derson (Wellington), who beat Mrs D. A. Sargisson (Ngaroma), 2G—l9, 26—17.

Miss Sydney Allen, who is reported missing from Wellington, where if is feared slm has been drowned, was, as stated earlier in the “Standard,” previously employed at the Palmerston 'North Public Library. She was appointed senior library assistant early last year, and came to Palmerston Ndrth with high academic qualifications. Although she had had no practical library experience, she became adapted to her work. Miss Allen left the Public Library to take up a similar position in Wellington last November. She was very popular with all members of the staff of the 1 aimerston North Library while employed here.
