ARCHITECTS CONFER.

ANNUAL MEETING. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Feb. 20. Jt was reported at to-day’s annual meeting of the council of the New Zealand Institute of Architects that increasing numbers of local bodies throughout the Dominion were making provision in their by-laws that plans and specifications for buildings ol a value in excess of a certain sum must be prepared by a registered architect or engineer. In Christchurch the figure was £4OOO or move, but in Auckland City it was £2OOO or more. In some boroughs the figures were lower, particularly Newmarket, where the by-law applied to buildings of £BOO or more. Tlie council discussed the question of the admission of aliens to membership of the institute. It was resolved that the council should not consider applications of aliens until such time as they had been granted naturalisation as British subjects and passed the necessary examinations.
