RED CROSS SOCIETY.
SOCIAL AND DANCE
A pleasing and varied programmo was presented, last evening, in the Cosmopolitan Hall, when the nursing division of the Palmerston North branch of the lied Cross Society held •a social and dance, following the completion of the year’s work. The stage was tastefully decorated with bowls of red geraniums, red carnations and pink sweet peas. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs A. E. Mansford (patron of the Palmerston North branch), B. J. Jacobs (president) and J. A. Nash. Mr J. K. Paton, on behalf of the members, made a presentation of a small gift and a bouquet to Mrs AV. H. Richardson (commandant) and also to Mrs G. Lyne (assistant-commandant) in appreciation of the fine services they had rendered particularly since the outbreak of the present war. Mrs Lyne (chairman of the social committee) expressed the thanks of the society to Dr. D. Gillies and Sisters Horn and Smith, of the Palmerston North Hospital, for their help with the classes. She also expressed appreciation of the help given by Dr. Adah Platts-Mills (Foxton) and Sister Bright (Palmerston North Hospital), who were unavoidably absent. A presentation was also made to Mr G. Pratt, a class member, who was married recently. Mr J. Brown was M.C. and the following contributed to the programme: Mr P. Collins, pianoforte medleys; Manawatu Catholic Drama Society, one-act farce (produced by Miss M. Cranston); Miss J. Paton, ’cello solos (accompanied bv Mrs I. Rickard);) Master E. Andrews, songs (nccom-j paniod by Miss J. Andrews); Messrs W. Robertson and A. McKegg, humorous songs (accompanied by Mr McLachlan): Mosdames .T. C. Riddle and X. Williamson, novelty pianoforte duets; Mr J. Brown, songs; and Mr L. Wood, humorous songs. The remainder of the evening was devoted to dancing.
