NURSES’ SONG.
AUCKLANDERS’ COMPOSITION. The spirit of New Zealand nurses, which is well-known throughout the world, is aptly illustrated in the words of a song written by Nurse E. St. M. Jones and Nurse A. L. Rhodes, of tlie Auckland Public Hospital. Quite recently a prize was anonymously donated for a competition for a New Zealand nurses’ song. The words of the winning entry were jointly composed and were put to music by Dr. J. M. Staveley, also of the Auckland Hospital. The chorus of this song will be sung by all New Zealand nurses, and it is interesting to note that the true nursing spirit of service to humanity is strongly emphasised (says the Star). The words of the 6ong are as follow:
From morning till eventide, And all the long night through, With skill and knowledge as our guide, Our calling we pursue. Not to our own material gain We dedicate our deeds, But to the suffering in their pain, To min’ster to their needs. Burn on ! Bum on ! O Torch of Life, And let it not burn low. In lands afar, in peace and strife, Our work will always show. This servico to humanity Will reap its own reward In healthy bodies, liappy hearts, A joy unto tho Lord.
