BLIND INSTITUTE
BAND CONCERT. The Blind Institute Band, playing in . Palmerston North on Saturday night, 1 entertained a large audience with their vocal, cornet, pianoforte, and other instrumental items. “Peter,” a woll--1 known wrestling enthusiast, was "’arini' 1 v applauded when lie appeared on the stage. The hand opened the programme, rendering two well-known items which were warmly applauded. A sketch entitled, “After the Itoiind-Up” opened the second half of the programme, the setting for this item being arranged around a camp fire on the prairies. The Palmerston North Garrison' Band i joined the visitors in the rendering of (the New Zealand National Anthem at the conclusion of the programme. New Zealand’s champion cornetist. Mr Allan Morton, who is a member of' the hand received a wonderful ovation on the rendering of three solos. The dance hand, which was a feature 1 of tile entertainment, presented several popular numbers which wero warmly applauded. Tile programme was as — Band, “Standard of St. George,” “Mill in the Dale”; Roberto Gherardi (xylophone), “Tlio Flyer,” “Zip Zip”; .Julian Leo (piano), “Marigolds,” “Solitude”; band, “In a Chinese Temple Garden,” “The Swing of the I .Kilt” ; Frank Robinson (vocal), “Bird • Songs at Eventide,” “Lassie O’ Mine” ; j Frank Robinson and Roberto Gherardi, j humorous sketch; band, “Nearer, My j God to Thee,” “El Abancio”; “After the Round-Up,” a sketch produced by Roberto Gherardi; Robert Martin (piano), “Midnight in Mayfair,” “Organ Grinder’s Swing”; dance band, “Jeepers Creepers,” “Little Drummer Boy,” “A-Tiskct-a-Tnsket”; James McGuire, Braille reading; Allan Morton (cornet), “Sonia,” “Flight of the Bumble Bee”; hand, “Verdi”; Turuai Tarawa, “Twelfth Street Rag.” Tho manager of the party, Mr G. IF. Pilgrim, in addressing the audience, stated that the institute compared most favourably with similar institutes i i other countries. He thanked all who had rendered help to make the concert a success, including Mr A. A. Langley, Mr A. Just-, Messrs Collinson and Cunninghamo, Berryman’s Ltd., the principals of the three secondary schools, and the Palmerston North bands.
