NEW ZEALAND EXAMPLE. ENROLMENTS IN LONDON. LONDON, Sept. 23. A communique issued by tiie Ministry ot Information states that New Zealand, which set an example the enrolment in London of New Zealanders intending to serve in an expeditionary force,. is receiving at the iStrand oniee many applications from men from other parts of the Empire, but they are not eligible. The High Commissioner (Mr W. J. Jordan) has taken immediate steps to set out the organisation and operation of the first stages. Recruitment will begin in a few days. Among the 500 men who have already offered their services are 270 of military age. Twenty-six former officers have ccme forward, but some are above the age qualification of 23 to .39 years. A further step in Australia’s military preparations is that arrangements are being made to raise new garrison battalions for the Army Reserve to relieve' the active militia troops now employed in internal defence, says a British Official Wireless message. (There, is to be special training for the militia forces in two batches, each of about 40,000 for a period of about one month and beginning shortly. Arrangements are also in progress for raising from the militia and other sources a special force of one division with auxilitary units for continuous service at home or abroad. This force will be concentrated in brigade groups about November 1. Naval mobilisation has ’been completed, and all reserve ships commissioned. The squadron is now exercising and patrolling.
