FOOTBALL DANCE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) APITI, Sept. 25. In spite of a certain amount of doubt as to ils success, the Football Club decided to go ahead with its benefit dance on Friday night. As a reward for the effort, the dance was a great success. There was a big crowd and dancing was enjoyed to the music of a first-class orchestra. The half had been tastefully decorated with ferns and greenery. The winners of novelty dances wore Miss Muir and Mr A. Dobson (Monto Carlo), Mr A. K. Prujeau and Miss Sextus (Lucky Gay Gordons); competitions were won by Messrs L. Sextus, It. Harland, C. Bell, and A. E. Prujcan. Extras were played by Miss Thompson (Rangiwahia) and Mr NT. Thompson, and Messrs 15. Kearney and J. McKcn&ic were were M.C.’s. Following the supper interval, Mr (!. F. Vilcs addressed the gathering, and introduced Mr N. Shannon (president of the Orotta Rugby Sub-Union). Mr Shannon expressed pleasure in presenting the shield to the Apiti junior tram. The presentation was received by Mr E. Signal, the junior captain, who responded on behalf of his team. A silver cup, donated by the junior captain, was then presented to Mr L. ITogan, who has shown himself the most, improved player during, the past season. Musical honours were accorded the recipients. Among those present were:— Misses L. Evans, in sky blue satin; E. Prince,' black georgette; Betty and Rac Muir, pink sprigged muslin. WELCOME HOME. A party of friends recently visited the homo of Mr and Mrs S. Lequesnc on Ridge Road. A very happy ' evening was spent in singing, music and dancing. Mr A. E. Prujcan expressed the good wishes of the company for the future happiness of Mr and Mrs Lequesnc, and indicated that a gift from their frierds would shortly be presented to them. Musical honours were aocorded, and Mr Lequesnc replied. TABLE FLAT. At the monthly mooting of the Women’s Institute Mrs H. Jensen (vice-president) was in the chair, in the absence of Miss Eliot. It was decided to plant potatoes, as. usual, for the competition. It is hoped to send a representative to the half-yearly council meeting. The golden, thread talk was {fiven by Mrs E. Miller. She spoke about the early vessels which reached New Zealand and also the Barton homestead in Wellington. A collection of gifts was received for the Makogai leper station. Points competition results were: Loaf of white broad, Mrs E. Miller 1, Mrs Pettigrew 2, Mcsdarnes H. Jensen and D. Hogan, equal, 3; decorative bowl Qf spring flowers, Mr H. Jenson 1, Miss R. Jensen 2. Miss E. Jensen 3; garden circle bloom, Miss 15. Jensen 1. Mrs W. Jensen 2, Mrs IT. Jensen 3; hand-made handkerchief, Mrs H. Jensen 1 and 2. Misses Pettigrew and Hogan, equal, 3. Competitions for next month arc: Covered coat-hanger, collection of bulbs (not more than 12). throe daffodils or narcissi, coffee, sponge cake.
