As a result of the decision Swinbourne handed in his resignation from the league. The Taree, the Sydney holder of the world 18-footer title, gained most points in the championship series at Auckland, but was disqualified on a protest entered bv an Auckland boat, the Limerick, which alleged that the Taree committed a breach of the rule requiring the boat on the port tack to give way to the boat on the starboard tack.
