MASS MANOEUVRES.
BIG GERMAN PLAN. BERLIN, Aug. 15. After the conclusion of the regimental manoeuvres this week, manoeuvres on a divisional scale will begin involving 1,800 000 men and reaching their climax in September with two million men. Already defences have been erected along the entire length of the Polish I frontier. EGYPTIAN DISPLAY. CAIRO, Aug. 15. The Mediterranean fleet, a hundred ’planes and motorised troops participated in the manoeuvres at Alexandria and Mersamatruh to-day. They were the biggest in the history of the Near East. Alexandria was blacked out to-night. RUMANIAN SPIRIT. DEFENCE OF~FRONTIERS. BUCHAREST. Aug. 15. Half a million troops will participate in the forthcoming manoeuvres. King Carol, alter a review marking the Crown Prince’s entry into the na.vy as a lieutenant, declared that the Rumanian frontiers, as now marked out. were unalterable except at the risk of a world-wide disaster. The determination to defend them must be a steelclad faith in the soul of every Rumanian.
