1 LEVIN SALE. ( ' SHEEP VALUES HARDEN. LEVIN, Aug. IG. Pigs were yarded in large numbers at this week’s stock sale in Levin. The yarding of sheep was small and in consequence values showed a hardening tendency’. Prices: — Pigs.—Light porkers, 33s to 365; medium. £2 5s to £2 15s; heavy, £3 to £3 13s; stores, 14s Gd to 325; sows to farrow, £6 15s to £B. Sheep: Eat hoggets, 18s 6d to 235; fat wethers, IDs to 35s Id. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 16., Though some sections scarcely maini tained the rates ruling at the last i sale, the stock market at Addington was generally- very’ satisfactory. The entry of more than 3000 store sheep was tho largest for some time and values, except for ewe hoggets, were generally easier than a fortnight ago. A line of open-woolled ewe j lambs sold at 25s 6(1, and another at 255. A pen of two-tooth owes brought 24s Gd for tho best, and for soundmouthed, 16s 3d. Heavier wethers were easier to Is a head. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 44s Id, prime heavy 20s 6d to 335, prime medium 25r to 2Ss 6d, light to 21s Gd; extra prime heavy ewes to 33s 7(1. prime heavy 27s to 30s, prime medium 22s Gd, light to 18s. The fat cattle market cased to 20s a head on the rates of a fortnight ago. Good beef sold to about 40s a 1001 b, tho tops to 435, and medium 36s to 395. Extra prime heavy steers made to £2O 7s Gd, prime heavy £ls 15s to £l7, prime medium £l3 10s to £ls ss, light to £lO 10s; extra prime heifers to £ls 7s Gd, prime £lO 10s to £l2 ss, j medium £9 to £lO ss, light to £S 10s; extra prime cows to £l4 7s Gd, prime CO 5s to £ll 10s, medium £7 to £9, light to £7. Porkers made 37s Gd to 57s Gd, an average price a lb of 7d to 7!d, and baconqrs 57s Gel to £5 3s Gd, an average price a lb of Gill to GJd. STORTFORD LODGE.

HASTINGS, Aug. 16. The activity of outside buyers, and the improved quality of the offering at Stortford Lodge made for a brisk market for fat cattle, which showed a rise of up to 10s a head. An outstanding offering of cows topped the market at £lO 11s. Medium to heavy prime cows ranged at from £8 to £9. Average quality pens made from £6 15s to £7 10s, and aged pens lacking in quality, not butchers’ sorts, sold at from £4 to £-1 10s. Shorthorn cows showing extra good quality, sold to £lO 2s. The heifer pens included some splendid quality lots, the market for heavy entries being topped at £l2, with other pons making from £lO 7s 6d to £ll Is. In the medium-framed pens one of the chief entries brought to £lO 15s, and another made £lO 8s Gd. Extra prime pens were in good demand to sell to 35s a 1001 b. Mediumweight bullocks ranged front £9 18s to £ll 12s. averaging from 34s to 35s a 1001 b. Ewe hoggets sold to 22s 3d for a lino showing size.

WESTFIELD MARKET. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Aug. 16. A short yarding of beef, which included a number of choice quality lines, sold exceptionally well at Westfield to-day. Values rose 4s a 1001 b in all classes. Extra choice ox made 40s a 1001 b; choice and prime, 37s to 395; secondary and plain, 34s to 365; prime cow and heifer, 32s to 375; boner and rough, 28s to 31s. Extra heavy prime steers made £l6 to £JS; heavy, £l4 to £l6 17s 6d; medium, £l2 10s to-£l4'lss; light, £ll 10s to £l3 2s 6d; unfinished, £5 to £l2 7s 6d; extra heavy prime cows and heifers, £l3 to £l4 15s; heavy, £lO to £ll 15s; medium, £8 to £9 ss; light, £7 to £8 12s Od; unfinished, £5 to £7 10s. At the Burnside sale fat cattle prices at the start, were on a par with late rates, but halfway through au easing commenced, and toward the end prices were down by 25s to 30s a head. Extra prime heavy ox made to £23 12s Gd, prime £lB to £l9, medium £l3 10s to £ls 15s, light from £5; extra prime cows and heifers to £l4 17s Gd, prime £lO to £ll 10s, medium £7 15s to £8 15s, light from £5 10s.
