1 LEVIN SALE. ( ' SHEEP VALUES HARDEN. LEVIN, Aug. IG. Pigs were yarded in large numbers at this week’s stock sale in Levin. The yarding of sheep was small and in consequence values showed a hardening tendency’. The entry of more than 3000 store sheep was tho largest for some time and values, except for ewe hoggets, were generally easier than a fortnight ago. A line of open-woolled ewe j lambs sold at 25s 6(1, and another at 255. A pen of two-tooth owes brought 24s Gd for tho best, and for soundmouthed, 16s 3d. Heavier wethers were easier to Is a head. HASTINGS, Aug. 16. The activity of outside buyers, and the improved quality of the offering at Stortford Lodge made for a brisk market for fat cattle, which showed a rise of up to 10s a head. An outstanding offering of cows topped the market at £lO 11s. Medium to heavy prime cows ranged at from £8 to £9. Average quality pens made from £6 15s to £7 10s, and aged pens lacking in quality, not butchers’ sorts, sold at from £4 to £-1 10s. Shorthorn cows showing extra good quality, sold to £lO 2s. The heifer pens included some splendid quality lots, the market for heavy entries being topped at £l2, with other pons making from £lO 7s 6d to £ll Is. In the medium-framed pens one of the chief entries brought to £lO 15s, and another made £lO 8s Gd. Extra prime pens were in good demand to sell to 35s a 1001 b. Mediumweight bullocks ranged front £9 18s to £ll 12s. averaging from 34s to 35s a 1001 b. Ewe hoggets sold to 22s 3d for a lino showing size.

WESTFIELD MARKET. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Aug. 16. A short yarding of beef, which included a number of choice quality lines, sold exceptionally well at Westfield to-day. Values rose 4s a 1001 b in all classes.
