RECORD FLIGHT
AWARUA MAKES. HISTORY. BASRA TO SOUTHAMPTON. 3ICO MILES IN 30 HOURS. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received July 3.1, 10.30 a.in. LONDON, July 30. The Imperial Airways flyingboat Awarua, intended for the Tasman service, flew the 3460 miles from Basra to Southampton to-day in the com mere ial record time of 30 hours, of which 23 were actual flying time. The schedule for the journey is 60 hours. The Awarua carried 13 passengers. A Sydney message says that, overcome by a scarcity of pilof.s to mail its enlarged licet. Imperial Airways has invited applications from the Dominions, and has selected 10 Canadians and six Australians. They will undergo a six months’ course before being appointed first officers in charge of Imperial Airways’ (lying-boats.
