FIRE BRIGADE.
ANNUAL MEETING. EFFICIENCY MAINTAINED. In the report presented at the annual meeting of the Palmerston Fire Brigade it was stated that the brigade’s affairs, generally, were satisfactory. The efficiency had been maintained and was appreciated by the residents. of the city. The musters had been well attended, revealing the members' keen interest in its welfare. New members were: Firemen D. Algic, C. Hancock, G. Hunt, K. Hally, J. Bull, L. Italpc, T. Davies, K. Shilton, and J. Morris. The resignations of Firemen J. Kitchen, E. Lucas, G. Thomauson and AY. Ehrhorn had been received. It was stated that the general account sfood at a satisfactory figure. The fourth annual old-time ball of the brigade had been field at the Showgrounds and thanks were extended to Airs S. Nichoils for her assistance with supper arrangements in connection with dances arranged through the year. In the recreational side of the brigade’s activities the following championships were, announced: Snooker, Deputy-Superintendent J. liepburn; billiards, i'iremau L. Hunt; tennis, Deputy-Superintendent Hepburn. Enjoyable card evenings had been held, games being played with members of the staff of Alcssrs William Cook and Sons’ mill. In the course of the year the following had been presented with service honours: Third Officer J. AlcSwconey, . Fourth, Officer L. Edgar, Firemen C. AVliite, A. Toon, A. Ncsbit, F. Nesbit, S. Nichoils, F. Powell, L. Lewis and O. Pritchard, ’ihe staging of the annual conference of the United Districts Fire Brigades’ Association in Palmerston North at Easter had beet* well worth while, especially as it was the first of these conferences to be held in the city and one which had undoubtedly placed the Palmerston North Brigade in a high sphere among other brigades. Fireman \V. A. AYyatt had been elected a vice-president of the association. The general position was very assuring, and the coming year was hoped to be even more successful than that just concluding. The following officers were elected: Treasurer, Superintendent P. AJilvertoii; secretary, Air AA'. A. AYyatt; hon. auditor, Air L. I. Plimmer; social committee, Deputy-Superintendent J. Hepburn. Third Officer J. AfcSweeney, Fourth Officer N. Edgar, Firemen L. Hunt, A. Toon, E. Stratton', A. Nesbit and K. Lucas.
