CONTROL IN MANAWATU. RBOBLEAI AT WOODVILLE. A decision to play no further matches nt Woodvillo this season unless more satisfactory arrangements covering tho provision of a playing area can be made was reached by the management committee of the Manawatu Rugby Til ion, last evening. It was explained that the Recreation Ground is availaide only on alternate Saturdays owing to its use by the Hockey Club. Iho A\ oodville Borough Council granted permission to use tho Recreation Ground provided satisfactory arrangements were made with the 'local Hockey Club every alternate Saturday. The charge was £7 10s, as previously. Mr H. Hands reported that the game had been delayed 20 minutes last ■Saturday, when the venue of pluv had to bo transferred owing to the Recreation Ground being occupied. Proper facilities had not been available on the paddock used, nor had it been correctly marked out. Mr J. It. Hardie suggested that tho Borough Council be advised that the granting of the Recreation Ground on alternate Saturdays only was not satisfactory, and that tho rent was too high. Air G. A. Brown (secretary) stated that onlv one more match was duo at AVoodville, unless a “midden death’ competition were played. It was decided to advise the AYoodvillo Council along the lines suggested bv Air Hardie, and also to advise the AVoodville Club that no further matches will be played at that centre pending the dialling of more satisfactory arrangements. Air K. W. F.glinton presided in tho nbsonce of tho president (Air A. M. Ongley), from whom there was an apology, and there were also present Alossrs J. R. Hardie, H. R. Crawford, H. Hands, A. J. Galpiu, R. L. Park, E. Clevely, J. Eagle, ,J. G. Eliott and P. O. Skoghind. There were also apologies for absence from Alessrs J. A. Colyulioun, \Y. Gleeson and B. Palmer. Tho Dannevirke Referees’ Association sought an opinion on a suggestion concerning refereeing arrangements. It was suggested that when Alanawatu travel to Dannevirke an active member of the Alanawatu Association be appointed, and that when the visit is returned a Dannevirke referee control the game. The consensus of opinion was that a precedent would ho created acceding to the request, and the Referees’ Association is to he .advised that the union docs not approve of the proposal.

ATiss I. Callaghan, teacher in charge of the Utuwai School, expressed appreciation of the gift of a football. The boys would be given a few lessons bv an enthusiast. —Received. AIOASCAR CUP' TOURNEY.

St. Patrick’s College, Silvenslream. forwarded formal advice that it would participate in the tournament with Alt. Albert Grammar, Te Ame and the Palmerston North Boys’ High Schools on August 17 and .19.. Air J. Murray,- rector of the Boys High School, also advised that the school was pleased to accept the invitation to enter the contest, but he would like it to be understood that acceptance was for this year only. The school was not undertaking to enter a tournament that would become automatically a regular one. Weston, referee of the AYood-ville-Okl Boys junior game on Satnrdav, advised that he had ordered on N.. Skittrup (Woodville) for allegedly striking a player. A written apology was also tendered by the player concerned.—The player was stood down lor one playing Saturday, a proposal that lie bo placed on the caution list being defeated. , Air Hands and Air Clevely both advocated that a strong hand be. taken oil behaif of the referees with this class of breach. AYildsmith. referee of the Ft-ilfling versus Foiltlinii Okl Boys third trrado match, reported that fiirhting had occurred and that he had had occasion to order off Sim (Redding) and Bramwoll (Redding Old Bovs) for fighting. Roth nlayers were placed on the caution list. CHALLENGE FOR SHIELD. Consideration was given to travelling arrangements lor the southern tour to Invercargill, and the secretary was authorised to arrange tor the journey to be undertaken by steamer and train. Twenty players and a manager are to comprise the team, the latter appointment- being deferred. On the motion, of Air. Hands and Air. Hardie, it was resolved that an application lie made for the match with Otago, to he a Eanlurly Shield fixture in the event of Otago lifting the shield from Southland, which Air.
