MAORIS’ GRIEVANCE.
Smarting under a grievance that their 90-year-old claim for the settlement of the purchase of the South Island by tile New Zealand Land Company has not been satisfied, a number of members of the Ngaitiilm and Ngaumamoe tribes, in the South Island, have hinted that they will not participate in the Centennial celebrations. The latest development in the prosecution of the Ngnitalm claims for payment by the Government of £375.000 to the descendants of the original owners of the South Island is the circulation by Ila tana members of the tribe of a petition to be forwarded to the Privy Council.
