ARBITRATION ACT.

ACCEPTANCE OF MACHINERY. WARNING TO UNIONS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 18. Power to cancel the registration of industrial unions of workers or employers in cases of strikes or lock-outs will ho sought by the Government in the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Bill which will he introduced in the House this afternoon by the Minister of Labour (Hon. P. C. Webb). Explaining the provisions, the Minister said to-day that if unions desired to have the benefits of organisation under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, then thev must he prepared to adopt the machinery laid clown in that Act and have their dispute dealt with in a constitutional manner. They could not take advantage of the Act for the purposes of organising and then ignore it when a dispute arose. Referring to the number of disturbances .since Labour had assumed office, Mr Webb said that, while such disturbances generally had been of minor importance, undoubtedly they gave rise to irritation and ill-feeling, and interfered with the normal flow of production. There was really no necessity for industries to be held up or impeded if either side refused to accept the final decision of the _ Arbitration Court. Then it was obvious that the whole basis of the Act would break down. If the unions were not prepared to accept the procedure under the Act, then they should not seek to retain its benefits.
