EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” JULY 19, 1909. The productiveness of the country was being: affected by the flight o! labour to the towns. The disintegration of the Liberal Party had commenced, and it was calculated that it would not he long before it would have a minority vote. A Wellington man had found it passible to raise a family of five and also to enjoy entertainments on a wage of Ss per day. There were 2490 people in Palmerston North entitled to vote on the water loan of £16,000 and a library loan of £2OOO proposed by the Borough Council. Tim population of New Zealand was 54R 803. Miss Ethel Buckley and Mr RoHort Inman were to appear in “East Lvnno” at the Palmerston North North Opera House.
