OPEN WATER REGATTA.
AUSTRALIANS IN HAWAII,
HONOLULU, July 16,
In an open-water regatta, to-day, K. Nakama (Maui) overtook R. Biddulph (Australia) at the three-quarter mark, and won by 20 yards in 12min 40Jsec. Peter Powlison (Honolulu) was third, T. Hirose (Maui) fourth, and R. Pirie (Canada) fifth. Jack May (Honolulu) won the halfmile surboard race, Russell was second, 30 yards behind him, and Chappie third. The Australians won the surfboat race over three-quarters of a mile from a local crew by 20 yards. In the four-man one-miie surfboard relay the Australians overcame a seemingly insurmountable lead, and won by 40 yards from two local teams. The relay team comprised Chappie, Borman, Morath, and Russell. There were 17 events, but the Australians did not participate in the others. There was a crowd of at least 5000.
