MUNICIPAL BAND.
SOLO AND QUARTETTE COMPETITIONS. On Saturday evening the Feilding' Municipal JJnnd held a solo and quartetto competition, the judge being Captain J. W. McLeod, oi the Palmerston North City Band. The junior contest was won by Prank Jleys, with N. Heys second, while in the senior competition the winner was Geo. Smith (trombone) with second honours going to W. Lowe (cornet). In the quartettes, W. Lowe’s group comprising \V. Lowe, C. Grindrod, T. Austin and J. Staples, secured the honours, while B. Garlick’s group, consisting of B. Garlick, H. Burt, L. Heys, and T. Comvell was placed second. Commenting on the competition, the adjudicator said that the solo playing was up to standard, but the quartettes' hardly reached contest standard due. no doubt, to Hie fact that the conducor (Mr J. L. Fleetword) had included a smattering of young players in the groups to give them experience. Five groups had taken part in the competi-
