SHANNON JUBILEE,

One of the oldest pupils who attended the Shannon School jubilee was Mr Walter Birchley, of Palmerston North, who regretted that his late brothers James and Sydney were unable to he present. They are sons of the late .Tosenh Birchley and Mrs Birchley, of Palmerston North, and well-known on this coast. The late Mr Joseph Birchlev took up farming at Buckley, and 1 the butchery business at Shannon, and flnxmills at Moutoa in the early eighties. He was a keen lover of horseflesh, and nil classes of sport. When the shin Hyderabad was wrecked, as far hack as 1879 on the Ilokio beach, she was sold by auction, and passed j into the hands of the late Joseph Bircli- | ley, of Foxton.
