NEW WHARFINGER
FOIL WANGANUI RAILWAY'S. Thirty-two years’ service in the Railway Department has been given by Mr W. J. Barrett, of Wellington, the newlv-appointed wharfinger at Wanganui, who took up his duties on Monday. Air Barrett, who joined the railway service in 1907 as a cadet at Winton, has occupied various positions in the South Island before being transferred to Auckland in 1917. His next transfer was to Oliakune in 1922, Three years later he was appointed stationmaster at Carterton, where he served for seven years, then a further three years in the same capacity at Petone, before being moved to Palmerston North as senior goods clerk. Transferred this year to Wellington, Air Barrett was "senior booking clerk at that station prior to taking up his present appointment. Air Barrett succeeds ATr AY. J. Feeney, who retired last month after 40 vears’ service.
