WOMEN’S INSTITUTES.
BRANCH AT TOKORANGI. On Friday afternoon, a- meeting was held in the Tokorangi School to inaugurate a branch of the Women’s Institute. The meeting was jvcll attended, fifteen intending members being present. Three members of the Oroiin ■ Federation (Airs AV. A. Short, president; Airs A. AlcCorkiiidalc, vicepresident; and Airs Barnicoat. secretary) were also present and each gave a short address. Airs Short expressed her pleasure at seeing Alaori and pakeha women uniting in a common desire for a fuller and more attractive country life. Airs Barnicoat explained some of the aims of the Women’s Institute, while Airs McCorkindalo showed an interesting display of handicrafts and demonstrated the making of a toy cat from the log of an old stocking. Officers were elected as follow: President. Airs Morrison; vice-presidents, Alesdnmcs Twikau and Prior; secretary-treasurer, Aliss Mornham ; committee, Alesdames Gottv, Arapere, Royal, and Love. Afternoon tea. was served. On behalf of the new members, Airs ATorrison conveyed a vote of thanks to Alesdames Short, AleCorkindale, and Barnicoat for a very instructive afternoon. The meeting closed with the National Anthem.
